Since the release of Final Fantasy XIV, there have been numerous updates that augmented the game—both big and small. From small patches such as tweaking minuscule things like the menu to releasing large updates that looked as if Square Enix was releasing a new expansion, Final Fantasy XIV is a game that’s chock full of content. But for some reason, before the FFXIV Patch 5.35 update was announced, Square had been keeping mum about what the next step for the online MMORPG was. Granted they may have been busy with their other projects such as the long-awaited part 2 of the Final Fantasy VII remake or the newest Final Fantasy game soon to be released on the PS5, but so far, we hadn’t heard much from them in regards to FFXIV. Until recently, that is.
It’s been a long time since the last patch for Final Fantasy XIV. Why, the last update was made more than half a year ago—February to be exact. This led to players getting hungrier for fresh content and lofty expectations that the next update will be worth the wait. Luckily for the players, the developers of FFXIV really put forth their efforts into making a new major patch update which will be releasing on 13th October 2020.
What’s New in FFXIV Patch 5.35?
If you don’t know what to expect for the Patch 5.35 update, sit tight. We’ll be giving a rundown of what’s new and what they fixed in FFXIV.
Additional housing plots
Final Fantasy XIV has recently been having a housing crisis due to COVID-19. Thankfully, Square Enix is addressing these problems with this update. The Patch 5.35 update will introduce additional housing plots for players who are looking to set up their own homes. Naoki Yoshida, the Producer and Director or FFXIV, stated that they plan to introduce 3 standard and 3 subdivision wards.
While this may look like a small change, keep in mind that there are four available residential districts in FFXIV. Since each residential district will have 6 wards in total (3 standard and 3 subdivisions), there will be 24 additional housing plots all in all. Note that these will be applied to all servers, so we’re looking at around 720 additional plots. While that’s still a pretty small scale for a game that has hundreds of thousands of players worldwide, it’s nonetheless a welcome solution to the problem—albeit a temporary one.
The Bozjan Southern Front: A New Area to Explore
The Bozjan Southern Front is the latest addition to the areas that you can explore in the world of Final Fantasy XIV. A deep dungeon looking like it came from the Victorian era, the Bozjan Southern Front can house up to 72 players inside. You can go here if you want to progress through the main story or just do some extra challenges to level up your character. You can also upgrade your Save the Queen weapon here.
This new area also brings fresh gear and weapon upgrades to nab such as Resistance and Relic weapons. There are some requirements that you need to take note of before entering, however. For starters, you need to be at least level 71 or higher. All of the players’ levels inside this dungeon will automatically be synced to level 80. This means that while your original level is still 75 for example, you’ll be able to use level 80 spells in the area. And second, mounts can be used inside the Bozjan Southern Front, but you can’t fly though.
There are two types of fights that you can engage in the Bozjan Southern Front: Critical Engagements and Skirmishes. Skirmish is a battle activity that originated in Final Fantasy XIV but was brought here in XIV. Anyone who successfully completes a Skirmish will be rewarded with powerful weapons and armor. The Critical Engagement battle, on the other hand, requires 24 to 48 players to work together to defeat an extremely powerful enemy. Think of it as like a boss battle but with the assistance of other players.
That’s what we know so far about the much-awaited Patch 3.35 update! Patch 3.35 is finally coming but there’s no definite date yet. However, the developers of FFXIV hinted that it will be released in the coming weeks!
